I. Overview
The BS 5308 Part 1 Type 2 PE/IS/OS/PE/SWA/PVC Cable is a crucial component in various industries, especially in applications related to communication and control signal transmission. This cable is designed to meet the specific needs of different installation types, with a particular focus on the petrochemical industry.
II. Application
Signal Transmission
These cables are designed to carry a diverse range of signals. Whether it is analogue, data, or voice signals, they can handle them effectively. Signals from various transducers like pressure sensors, proximity detectors, and microphones can be transmitted without distortion. This versatility makes it suitable for complex communication and control systems.
In the petrochemical industry, where reliable signal transmission is vital for the safe and efficient operation of processes, this cable plays an important role. It can operate in the challenging environments typically found in this industry.
Mechanical Protection and Burial Applications
When a higher level of mechanical protection is necessary, such as in areas with potential physical damage risks, Part 1 Type 2 cables are the ideal choice. They are also well - suited for direct burial at an appropriate depth. The cable can withstand the external forces and environmental conditions associated with such installations, ensuring long - term performance.
III. Characteristics
Rated Voltage
With a rated voltage of Uo/U: 300/500V, the cable is capable of operating within this voltage range, providing a reliable power supply for the transmitted signals. This voltage rating is suitable for many common communication and control applications.
Rated Temperature
The cable has a rated temperature range that varies depending on its state. In fixed installations, it can tolerate temperatures from - 40ºC to +80ºC. When flexed, the temperature range is from 0ºC to +50ºC. This wide temperature tolerance enables it to be used in both cold and hot environments, making it highly adaptable.
Minimum Bending Radius
Having a minimum bending radius of 12D, the cable can be bent to a certain extent during installation without causing damage to its internal structure. This flexibility in bending is important for routing the cable in different installation setups.
IV. Construction
Conductor
For cross - sectional areas between 0.5mm² - 0.75mm², the cable uses Class 5 flexible copper conductors. These conductors offer high flexibility, which is beneficial for applications where some movement or flexibility in the cable is required. For areas of 1mm² and above, Class 2 stranded copper conductors are employed. They provide good conductivity and mechanical strength, ensuring efficient signal transmission and durability.
Insulation
The XLPE (Cross - Linked Polyethylene) insulation is used, which has excellent electrical insulation properties. It helps in preventing electrical leakage and ensures that the signals are transmitted efficiently without interference.
Screening
The overall screen made of Al/PET (Aluminium/Polyester Tape) provides shielding against electromagnetic interference. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the transmitted signals, especially in environments where there may be external electromagnetic sources.
Drain Wire
The tinned copper drain wire serves to dissipate any electrostatic charges that may build up on the cable. This helps in enhancing the safety and performance of the cable.
Inner Jacket
The inner jacket made of LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) material is an important safety feature. In the event of a fire, it will not release large amounts of smoke or toxic halogens, protecting the surrounding environment and equipment.
Armour
The SWA (Galvanised Steel Wire Armour) provides strong mechanical protection. It can withstand external forces such as crushing, impact, and abrasion, safeguarding the internal components of the cable.
Sheath
The outer sheath is also made of LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) material, further enhancing the cable's safety features. The sheath colour of blue - black helps in easy identification of the cable in a complex installation environment.
In conclusion, the BS 5308 Part 1 Type 2 PE/IS/OS/PE/SWA/PVC Cable is a well - designed cable that combines the necessary electrical, mechanical, and safety features required for a wide range of applications. Its ability to transmit different types of signals, along with its adaptability to various environmental conditions, makes it a reliable choice for industries such as the petrochemical industry and other applications where communication and control signal transmission is crucial.
