I. Overview
The BS 5308 Part 2 Type 1 PVC/IS/OS/PVC Cable is a specialized cable designed for specific applications in the field of communication and control signal transmission. It is crafted to meet the requirements of various installation types, with a particular focus on indoor use and environments where mechanical protection is not a primary concern.
II. Application
Signal Transmission
This cable is engineered to carry different types of signals, namely analogue, data, and voice signals. These signals can be sourced from a variety of transducers such as pressure sensors, proximity detectors, and microphones. It serves as a reliable medium for transmitting these signals in communication and control systems, ensuring seamless connectivity between different components.
Indoor and Low - Protection Environments
Part 2 Type 1 cables are primarily designed for indoor applications. This includes use in office buildings, commercial establishments, and indoor industrial areas. In these environments, the cable is not exposed to the harsh mechanical stresses that outdoor or high - risk areas might present. It is also suitable for environments where mechanical protection is not a major requirement, as it is not typically subjected to significant physical impacts, abrasions, or outdoor elements.
Signal Security
The cable is individually screened, which enhances signal security. In settings where the integrity of the transmitted signals is crucial, such as in data - sensitive communication networks or control systems, this screening helps to prevent interference. By protecting the signals from external electromagnetic sources, it ensures that analogue, data, or voice signals are transmitted accurately and without distortion.
III. Characteristics
Rated Voltage
With a rated voltage of Uo/U: 300/500V, the cable is well - adapted to a wide range of electrical applications related to communication and control signal transfer. This voltage rating provides a stable power supply for the signals it conveys, enabling proper functioning of connected devices.
Rated Temperature
The cable has a rated temperature range that varies depending on its state. For fixed installations, it can operate within the temperature range of - 40ºC to +80ºC, while for flexed conditions, the range is from 0ºC to +50ºC. This wide temperature tolerance allows it to be used in different indoor climates, from cold storage areas to relatively warm server rooms.
Minimum Bending Radius
The minimum bending radius of 6D is a notable characteristic. This relatively small bending radius indicates that the cable can be bent more sharply compared to some other cables without causing damage to its internal structure. This is advantageous during installation, as it allows for greater flexibility in routing the cable around corners and through tight spaces in indoor installations.
IV. Construction
Conductor
For cross - sectional areas between 0.5mm² - 0.75mm², the cable uses Class 5 flexible copper conductors. These conductors offer excellent flexibility, which is beneficial for applications where the cable may need to be bent or maneuvered within indoor spaces. For areas of 1mm² and above, Class 2 stranded copper conductors are employed. They provide good conductivity and mechanical strength, ensuring efficient signal transmission.
Pairing
The cable features two insulated conductors that are uniformly twisted together. This pairing arrangement helps in reducing crosstalk between the conductors, which is important for maintaining the integrity of the transmitted signals, especially in applications where multiple signals are being carried simultaneously.
Insulation
The PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation is used in this cable. PVC is a cost - effective and commonly used material for cable insulation. It provides good electrical insulation properties, preventing electrical leakage and ensuring that the signals are transmitted without interference.
Screening
The individual and overall screen made of Al/PET (Aluminium/Polyester Tape) offers protection against electromagnetic interference. In indoor environments where there may still be sources of electromagnetic noise, such as electrical equipment or wiring, this screening helps to maintain the quality of the transmitted signals.
Drain Wire
The tinned copper drain wire serves to dissipate any electrostatic charges that may build up on the cable. This helps in enhancing the safety and performance of the cable by preventing static - related issues.
Sheath
The outer sheath of the cable is made of PVC, which provides an additional layer of protection to the internal components. The sheath colour of blue - black not only gives the cable a distinct appearance but also aids in easy identification during installation.
