I. Overview
The BS 5308 Part 2 Type 2 PVC/IS/OS/PVC/SWA/PVC Cable is a significant product in the field of communication and control signal transmission. It is designed to meet the requirements of diverse installation scenarios, especially in the petrochemical industry, while also offering a range of features for reliable performance.
II. Application
Signal Transmission
This cable is engineered to carry various types of signals, including analogue, data, and voice signals. Signals from a variety of transducers such as pressure sensors, proximity detectors, and microphones can be effectively transmitted. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide array of communication and control systems, providing seamless connectivity in different technological setups.
Petrochemical Industry and Beyond
In the petrochemical industry, where safety and efficiency are of utmost importance, this cable plays a vital role. It can be used in different installations within the industry to ensure reliable signal transfer for critical processes.
Mechanical Protection Requirements
Part 2 Type 2 cables are specifically designed for situations where a greater degree of mechanical protection is needed. This includes outdoor or exposed installations and direct burial at a suitable depth. In outdoor settings, the cable may be exposed to various environmental factors such as weather, physical impact, or abrasion. The ability to be directly buried also makes it suitable for underground installations where it must withstand soil pressure and potential damage from underground elements.
Signal Security
The individually screened design of the cable enhances signal security. In environments where signal integrity is crucial, such as in industrial control systems or communication networks, this feature ensures that the transmitted signals are protected from interference, maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the data or communication.
III. Characteristics
Rated Voltage
With a rated voltage of Uo/U: 300/500V, the cable is well - suited for many common electrical applications related to communication and control signal transfer. This voltage rating allows it to function within a standard range, providing a stable power supply for the signals it carries.
Rated Temperature
The cable has a rated temperature range that varies depending on its state. For fixed installations, it can operate within a temperature range of - 40ºC to +80ºC, while for flexed conditions, the range is from 0ºC to +50ºC. This wide temperature tolerance enables it to be used in diverse climates and environments, from extremely cold to relatively hot conditions.
Minimum Bending Radius
A minimum bending radius of 12D is specified for this cable. This characteristic is important during installation as it determines how much the cable can be bent without causing damage to its internal structure. It allows for flexibility in routing the cable in different installation layouts.
IV. Construction
Conductor
For cross - sectional areas between 0.5mm² - 0.75mm², the cable utilizes Class 5 flexible copper conductors. These conductors offer excellent flexibility, which is beneficial in applications where the cable may need to be bent or moved. For areas of 1mm² and above, Class 2 stranded copper conductors are used. These provide good conductivity and mechanical strength, ensuring efficient signal transmission and durability.
Insulation
The PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation used in this cable provides electrical insulation. PVC is a cost - effective and commonly used material for cable insulation, helping to prevent electrical leakage and ensure the integrity of the transmitted signals.
Screening
The individual and overall screen made of Al/PET (Aluminium/Polyester Tape) offers protection against electromagnetic interference. This is crucial for maintaining the quality of the transmitted signals, especially in environments with potential sources of electromagnetic noise.
Drain Wire
The tinned copper drain wire serves to dissipate any electrostatic charges that may accumulate on the cable. This helps in enhancing the safety and performance of the cable by preventing static - related issues.
Inner Jacket, Armour, and Sheath
The inner jacket, made of PVC, provides an additional layer of protection to the internal components of the cable. The SWA (Galvanised Steel Wire Armour) offers strong mechanical protection, safeguarding the cable from external forces such as crushing, impact, or abrasion. The outer sheath, also made of PVC, further protects the cable and has a sheath colour of blue - black, which aids in easy identification during installation.
In conclusion, the BS 5308 Part 2 Type 2 PVC/IS/OS/PVC/SWA/PVC Cable is a well - designed cable with a combination of features that make it suitable for a variety of applications. Its ability to carry different types of signals, withstand different environmental conditions, and provide mechanical and signal protection makes it a reliable choice in industries such as the petrochemical industry and in various communication and control systems.
