PAS BS 5308 Part 1 Type 2 SIL/IS/OS/LSZH/SWA/LSZH (Fire Resistant) Cable
APPLICATION
Publicly Available Standard (PAS) BS 5308 cables are designed
to carry communication and control signals in a variety of
installation types including those found in the petrochemical
industry. The signals can be of analogue, data or voice types and
from a variety of transducers such as pressure, proximity or
microphone. Part 1 Type 2 cables are designed where a greater
degree of mechanical protection is required or where there is
direct burial at a suitable depth. Suitable for fire resistant
installations. Individually screened for enhanced signal security.

I. Overview
BS 5308 Part 1 Type 2 SIL/IS/OS/LSZH/SWA/LSZH (Fire Resistant) Cable suits strict - requirement scenarios in fire - resistance, etc., and is important in construction, industry, and transportation.
II. Structural Composition
(I) SIL Insulation Layer
Good Electrical Insulation
SIL has high resistivity for preventing current leakage and ensuring energy transmission. It's stable under different voltages.
High - temp Resistance and Flexibility
It can withstand high - temperature and is flexible for easy installation without affecting insulation.
(II) Inner Separation Layer (IS)
Separation and Protection
IS separates SIL from other layers, preventing chemical reactions and protecting SIL's integrity.
Structural Stability
It buffers external forces, reducing internal displacement and maintaining electrical performance.
(III) Outer Separation Layer (OS)
External Protection
OS blocks external substances, protecting internal parts and extending cable life.
Stress - dispersing
It disperses stress when the cable is bent or pressured, reducing internal pressure.
(IV) LSZH Sheath Layer
Fire - resistant and Green
LSZH emits less smoke and toxic gases in a fire, aiding evacuation and being environmentally friendly.
Mechanical Protection
It protects against common mechanical damages.
(V) Steel Wire Armour (SWA)
Mechanical Protection
SWA protects the cable from mechanical damage in various environments.
Electromagnetic Shielding
It shields against electromagnetic interference, improving signal quality.
III. Performance Characteristics
(I) Fire - resistant Performance
Good Fire - resistant Capacity
The cable can maintain circuit integrity in a fire, ensuring key equipment operation.
Flame Spread Prevention
It can prevent flame spread, improving building safety.
(II) Electrical Performance
Efficient Power Transmission
SIL enables efficient power transmission, reducing loss in long - distance.
High - insulation Reliability
SIL and IS ensure stable insulation in complex electrical environments.
(III) Environmental Adaptability
Low - Smoke Zero - Halogen Advantage
It doesn't release toxic smoke in a fire, protecting lives and the environment.
Wide - range Tolerance
The cable can adapt to various environments without severe performance impact.
(IV) Mechanical Performance
High Strength and Toughness
SWA and SIL give the cable strength and toughness for withstanding external forces.
Good Bending Performance
The cable can be bent without seriously affecting internal layer performance.
IV. Application Fields
Construction Field
Used in high - safety - requirement circuits in buildings for fire - protection and safety.
Industrial Field
Transmits power and signals in industrial environments with complex conditions.
Transportation Field
Applied in transportation hubs to improve fire - safety and ensure facility operation.
V. Installation and Maintenance
(I) Installation Points
Laying Method Selection
Can be laid in multiple ways. Different methods need to consider relevant factors to avoid damage.
Bending Radius Control
The cable's bending radius must be controlled to avoid internal layer damage.
(II) Maintenance Precautions
Regular Visual Inspection
Regularly check the cable's appearance, especially LSZH and SWA. Repair damage timely.
Electrical Performance Detection
Regularly test electrical performance. If abnormal, find the fault cause and repair or replace as needed.
